புலிகளின் முக்கிய தளம் கைப்பற்றப்பட்டிருக்கிறது

இராணுவத்திற்கும் விடுதலைப் புலிகளுக்கும் இடையில் நேரடி மற்றும்
எறிகணை வீச்சு மோதல்கள்இடம்பெற்றதாகவும்மன்னார்பகுதியில்விடுதலைப் புலிகளின் முக்கிய தளம் ஒன்றை இராணுவம் கைப்பற்றியிருப்பதாகவும் இலங்கை தேசிய பாதுகாப்புக்கான ஊடகத் தகவல் மையம் தெரிவித்திருக்கின்றது.

மன்னார் பிரதேசத்தில் உள்ள விடுதலைப் புலிகளின் பேஸ் -18 எனப்படும்
முக்கிய தளம் உட்பட்ட வேப்பங்குளம், கள்ளிக்குளம் பிரதேசம் முழுமையாக
இராணுவத்தினரால் இன்று கைப்பற்றப்பட்டிருப்பதாகவும், இங்கு இடம்பெற்ற
மோதல்களில் குறைந்தது 40 விடுதலைப் புலிகள் கொல்லப்பட்டிருப்பதாகவும் அந்த ஊடகத் தகவல் மையம் கூறியிருக்கின்றது.

இப்பகுதியில் இராணுவத்தினருக்கு உதவியாக எம்.ஐ தாக்குதல் உலங்கு
வானூர்திகளும் விடுதலைப் புலிகள் மீது வான் தாக்குதல் நடத்தியதாகவும்
தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கின்றது. எனினும் இது குறித்து விடுதலைப் புலிகள்
தரப்பிலிருந்து உடனடியாகத் தகவல்கள் எதுவும் வெளியிடப்படவில்லை.
இதேவேளை, வெலிஓயா எனப்படும் மணலாறு பகுதியில் இன்று காலை 9.30
மணிமுதல் பிற்பகல் 2 மணிவரையில் இராணுவத்தினருக்கும் விடுதலைப்
புலிகளுக்கும் இடையில் கடுமையான எறிகணை வீச்சு மோதல்கள்
இடம்பெற்றதாக இரு தரப்பினரும் தெரிவித்திருக்கின்றனர்.

இதன்போது, விடுதலைப் புலிகளினால் சிறிபுர பகுதிமீது நடத்தப்பட்ட எறிகணை தாக்குதலில் முதியவர் ஒருவர் காயமடைந்துள்ளதாக இராணுவம் தெரிவித்துள்ளது. இராணுவத்தினர் நெடுங்கேணி பகுதி மீது நடத்திய எறிகணை தாக்குதல்களில் சிவிலியன் ஒருவர் கொல்லப்பட்டதாகவும், இளம் தாய் ஒருவர் காயமடைந்துள்ளதாகவும் விடுதலைப் புலிகள் தெரிவித்திருக்கின்றனர்.


Sri Lanka Captures Second Rebel Base in 10 Days in Northwest

May 1 (Bloomberg) -- Sri Lankan forces captured a Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam base near Mannar, the second camp overrun in the northwest in 10 days, as part of an offensive to drive the rebels from their last strongholds in the region.

Troops attacked ``Base 18'' early yesterday as helicopter gunships knocked out firing posts around the installation, the Ministry of Defense said on its Web site.
Forty-two LTTE fighters were killed and 38 wounded in the attack, it said, citing intercepted rebel radio communications. Six soldiers were injured. The LTTE hasn't commented on the battle.

The LTTE, which is fighting for a separate homeland in Sri Lanka, has been driven back to bases in the north since the military captured the eastern region last July in the group's worst defeat during the 25-year conflict.

The military said it overran Lima Base 3 near Mannar on April 21 and killed seven rebels in fighting that brought about 1.3 kilometers (0.8 miles) of territory under its control.
Fighter jets bombed LTTE artillery posts in the Andankulam and Kumbulamunai regions yesterday. They targeted posts located 12 kilometers and 14 kilometers respectively north of the Forward Defense Line on the Welioya front, the ministry cited air force spokesman Wing Commander Andrew Wijesooriya as saying.

The military's offensives in the north amount to genocide of Tamils, the LTTE said in March.
Sri Lanka's military shelled a civilian settlement in Nedunkerni as part of a two-hour artillery barrage yesterday that killed one man and injured a woman, the LTTE Peace Secretariat said on its Web site. The military hasn't commented on the report.

Sri Lanka ended a 2002 cease-fire with the LTTE in January, prompting the United Nations and human rights groups to warn government forces and rebels to avoid abuses of civilians.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa's government says it wants to reach a political settlement on Tamil separatism, while eradicating terrorism in the north. The LTTE is designated a terrorist organization by the U.S., the European Union and India.
