Some Malaysians Linked To LTTE?

PUTRAJAYA, June 18 (Bernama) -- Malaysia will extend its fullest cooperation to Sri Lanka if an allegation that some Malaysians worked hand-in-glove with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) terrorists to launch bomb attacks in Colombo is true.

"We are still waiting (for the Sri Lankan government to confirm the allegation). As the minister (Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar) said Tuesday, if there is anything, the Sri Lankan government should contact us.

"We are ever willing to give our fullest cooperation on the matter," said Deputy Home Minister Datuk Chor Chee Heung.

He was speaking to reporters after opening the Security Scanners exhibition at the Marriot Hotel here Wednesday.

While the Sri Lankan authorities had yet to react on the matter, Chor said the allegation was through a news report.

"We don't even know if the allegation is true. If they contact us, then we would do our utmost to help.

"But so far, it is just an allegation in a news report, and the best thing would be for them (Sri Lanka) to contact us," added Chor.

According to a Sri Lankan news report, six suspects under interrogation by Sri Lankan troops revealed they were awaiting instructions from some Malaysians, via the telephone, to launch the attack.

The suspects, believed to be members of the terrorist organisation LTTE, were arrested on Saturday in Wattala, Sri Lanka where authorities seized 2.7kg high- powered C4 explosives.

On Tuesday, Syed Hamid had said that Kuala Lumpur would not hesitate to act against Malaysians linked to the LTTE.

He said his ministry would contact the Sri Lankan government to clarify the allegation.
