குடிவரவு சட்டவிதிகளை மீறிய இலங்கையர் திருப்பி அனுப்பப்பட்டுள்ளார்

மாணவர் வீசா ஒன்றின் மூலம் பிரித்தானியாவிற்கு செல்ல முற்பட்ட இலங்கையர் ஒருவரை பிரித்தானிய எல்லைப் பாதுகாப்புப் பிரிவினர் கைது செய்து நாடு கடத்தியுள்ளனர்.
குறித்த இலங்கையர் நொர்ட்ஹெம்டனில் உள்ள இரவுநேரக் கேளிக்கை விடுதியொன்றில் பணியாற்றி வந்துள்ளமை விசாரணைகளை மூலம் தெரியவந்துள்ளது.

விடுமுறையைக் கழிப்பதற்காக இலங்கைக்கு வந்து மீண்டும் லண்டன் திரும்பிய சந்தர்ப்பத்தில் குறித்த இலங்கையர் கைது செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளார்.

லண்டன் பல்கலைக்கழகமொன்றில் உயர் கல்வி கற்பதாகவும், அதற்கான ஆவணங்களையும் குறித்த இலங்கையர் சமர்ப்பித்துள்ளார்.

எனினும், தீவிர விசாரணைகளை மேற்கொண்ட எல்லைப் பாதுகாப்புப் பிரிவினர் சமர்ப்பிக்கப்பட்ட ஆவணங்கள் போலியாகத் தயாரிக்கப்பட்டவை என்பதனைக் கண்டு பிடித்துள்ளனர்.

சட்டவிரோதமான முறையில் ஐக்கிய இராச்சியத்தில் வெளிநாட்டவர்கள் தொழில் புரிவதற்கு அனுமதிக்கப்பட மாட்டாதென அந்நாட்டு உயர் அதிகாரியொருவர் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

புலிகளின் ஆதரவாளரென கூறப்பட்டதை நிராகரிக்கிறார் பிரிட்டனின் பாடகி எம்.ஐ.ஏ.

இலங்கை வம்சாவளியினரான "எம்.ஐ.ஏ' என்று அழைக்கப்படும் பிரிட்டனின் முன்னணிப் பாடகியான மாதங்கி அருள் பிரகாசம் விடுதலைப்புலிகளுக்கு ஆதரவானவர் என்று தெரிவிக்கப்பட்ட குற்றச்சாட்டுகளை அவர் மறுத்திருக்கிறார்.

கடனட்டை மோசடியில் இலங்கையர் ஒருவருக்கு 33 மாதகால சிறைத்தண்டனை

பிரித்தானியாவில் எரி பொருள் நிரப்பு நிலையத்தில் காசாளராக கடமை புரிந்த இலங்கையரான அப்துல் சமட் மொகமட் ராசிக் என்பவறு 33 மாதக்கால சிறைத்தண்டனை விதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளதாக பாதுகாப்பு அமைச்சகம் செய்தி வெளியிட்டுள்ளது.

500 மேற்பட்ட கடனட்டைகள் மூலம் 175,000 பௌன்ஸ்களை அவர் மோசடி செய்துள்ளதாக தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

புலிகளின் பெயரில் மோசடிசெய்யும் மாற்று இயக்கத்தவர்களின் வஞ்ச செயளால் தலைகுனியும் தமிழ் சமூகம்

பிரித்தானியாவில் வங்கியட்டை மோசடியில் அதிகமாக ஈடுபட்டவர்கள் தனி நபர்களளும் மாற்று இயக்கத்தினரும் ஆனால் காவல்துறையினரால் கைது செய்யப்பட்டவுடன் தண்டனையில் இருந்து தம்மை காப்பாற்றிக் கொள்ள புலிகளின் மேல் பழியைப்போட்டவர்கள் தான் அதிகமான தமிழர்கள் என்பது மக்கள் அறிந்த உண்மை . இதேசமயம் தம்மை புலிகள் தான் துர்ண்டினார்கள் என்று சொல்லி தப்பினவர்களும் உண்டு. இத்தகைய மோசடிகளில் மட்டுமல்ல மற்றைய மோசடிகளிலும் இத்தகைய கைவண்ணமும் விசமத்தனத்தை மேற்கொண்டவர்கள் மாற்று இயக்குத்தினரே என்ற குற்றச்சாட்டு தற்பொழுது எழுந்துள்ளது இந்தக் குற்றுச்சாட்டு உண்மையானது இதற்கான ஆதாரங்கள் பல சுவிசர்லாந்திலே இருப்பதாகவும் தெரியவருகின்றது. புலிகளின் தூண்டுதலில் மோசடியில் தாம் ஈடுபட்டதாகக் கூறுவது அப்பட்டமான பொய் என்பது தெரியவந்தது. இவ்வாறான நபர்கள் தாமாக தவறு செய்கின்றனரா அல்லது சிறீலங்கா போன்ற நாடுகளின் புலனாய்வுப் பிரிவினரின் தூண்டுதலில் செயற்படுகின்றனரா??? என்ற சந்தேகம் தற்பொழுது வெளிநாட்டு புலணாய்வுத் துறை மத்தியில் வலுப்பெற்று இருப்பதைக் காணக் கூடியதாக இருக்கின்றது. கடந்த காலத்தில் இத்தகைய மோசடிகளில் ஈடுபட்டவர்கள் இலங்கை இந்தியா போன்ற பகுதிகளில் பெருமளவு சொத்துக்களை வாங்கியுள்ளார்கள் இவர்கள் அனைவரும் மாற்று இயக்கத்தின் பிரதிநிதிகளாகவும் இருந்தது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. மற்றும் லீசெஸ்ரர்சையர் பகுதியில் பெற்றோல் நிரப்பு நிலையம் ஒன்றில் பணியாற்றிய 33 அகவையுடைய அப்துல் சமத் மொஹமட் றயிக் என்ற முஸ்லீம் நபர், வங்கிக் கடனட்டை மோசடியில் ஈடுபட்டதாக தற்பொழுது பிரித்தானிய நீதிமன்றில் முன்னிறுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளார். இவர் தானாக சென்று காவல்துறையினரிடம் சரணடைந்திருப்பதுடன், விடுதலைப் புலிகளின் தூண்டுதலில் செயற்பட்டதாகவும், அவர்களே கடனட்டை மோசடிக்கான உபகரணங்களை தனக்கு வழங்கியதாகவும் விசாரணையில் கூறியிருக்கின்றார். இந்த விசாரணைகள் தொடரும் தர்னத்தில் பிரித்தானியாவில் குற்ற செயல்களில் ஈடுபட்டு தமிழ் சமூகத்திற்கு அவப்பெயரை ஏற்படுத்துவதற்காக கொழும்பில் இருந்தும், இந்தியாவில் இருந்தும் பலர் அனுப்பி வைக்கப்பட்டிருப்பதாகக் கூறப்படுகின்றது. இவர்கள் குழுக்களாக மோதல்களில் ஈடுபடுவது, தமிழ் சிறார்களை போதைப் பொருள்களுக்கு அடிமையாக்குதல் கடனட்டை மற்றும் மோசடிகளில் ஈடுபடுதல் போன்ற சமூக விரோரத செயல்களில் ஈடுபட்டு வருகின்றனர். இவ்வாறு ரூற்றிங்கில் பிரபா என்ற இளைஞனைப் படுகொலை செய்த சிறீலங்காவைச் சேர்ந்த 6 இளைஞர்கள் இந்தியாவைச் சேர்ந்த மற்றொரு இளைஞருமாக 7 பேர் கைது செய்யப்பட்டிருந்தது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. இவர்களில் நால்வருக்கு ஆயுள் தண்டனையும்: ஏனையோருக்கு பல வருடங்கள் சிறைத்தண்டனையும் பிரித்தானிய நீதிமன்றத்தினால் கடந்த மாதம் வழங்கப்பட்டிருக்குpன்றது. பிரித்தானிய ஊடகங்களும் உண்மையைக் கண்டறிந்து செய்தி வெளியிடும் ஊடக தருமத்தை மறந்து நீதிமன்றங்களில் குற்றவாளிகள் கூறும் கருத்துக்களை அப்படியே வெளியிட்டு வருவதால் பிரித்தானிய தமிழ் சமூகத்தினர் இது பற்றி குறிப்பிட்ட ஊடகங்களின் கவனத்திற்குக் கொண்டு செல்ல வேண்டும் என ஆய்வாளர்கள் சுட்டிக்காட்டியுள்ளதும் குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

விசாப்பெற ஆங்கிலமொழிப் பரீட்சை திட்டத்தை கைவிட்டது பிரிட்டன்

தமது நாட்டில் குடியேற விரும்புவோர் ஆங்கிலமொழிப் பரீட்சையில் சித்தியடைய வேண்டுமெனவும் அதன் பின்னரே விசா வழங்கப்படுமெனவும் அறிவித்திருந்த திட்டத்தை இப்போது பிரிட்டன் கைவிட்டுள்ளது.

இதனடிப்படையிலேயே விசாவுக்கான வயதெல்லையை அதிகரித்தல், திருமணத்திற்காக வருகைதருவோரின் விண்ணப்பங்களை கடுமையாக பரிசோதித்தல், ஆங்கிலம் கற்றுக்கொள்ள வலியுறுத்தல் போன்ற நடவடிக்கைகளை மேற்கொண்டுள்ளோம் என்றும் அவர் கூறியுள்ளார்.

ஒரே தினத்தில் ஒரே பாடத்தில் பட்டம் பெற்ற தாயும் மகளும்

ஒரே பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் ஒரே பாடத்தில் ஒரே நேரத்தில் தாயும் மகளும் பட்டம் பெற்ற விநோத சம்பவம் இங்கிலாந்தில் நடைபெற்றுள்ளது.
பேர்மிங்ஹாம் நகரில் வசிக்கும் இந்திய வம்சாவளியினரான அம்ரத் போகல் (43 வயது), அவருடைய மகளான குர்பிறீத் (21 வயது) ஆகியோரே அஸ்டன் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் ஒரே சமயத்தில் விஞ்ஞானத்தில் இளமானி பட்டத்தைப் பெற்றுள்ளனர்.

இந்திய பஞ்சாப் மாநிலத்தைச் சேர்ந்த தனது பெற்றோர் 1947 ஆம் ஆண்டு முதற்கொண்டு பிரித்தானியாவில் வாழ்ந்து வருவதாக குறிப்பிட்ட போகல், தான் ஆசிய நாட்டு பெண் என்ற ரீதியில் பெருமையடைவதாக கூறினார்.

இந்தப் பட்டத்தைப் பெற தனது கணவரான ஜஸ்வந்தே ஊக்குவிப்பு வழங்கியதாகத் தெரிவித்த அவர், தனது கணவரின் தாயார் உத்தர பிரதேசத்தில் தற்போதும் வாழ்ந்து வருவதாகக் கூறினார்.

தொலைக்காட்சிப் பெட்டி வீழ்ந்து குழந்தை மரணம்

இலங்கையிலிருந்து சென்று பிரிட்டனில் புகலிடம் கோரியிருக்கும் குடும்பமொன்றைச் சேர்ந்த ஒரு வயதுக் குழந்தை மீது தொலைக்காட்சிப்பெட்டி விழுந்ததால் அக்குழந்தை இறந்துவிட்டது.
ஸ்வான் சீ, பென்லான் பகுதியிலுள்ள ஹியோல் பிராவ் எனுமிடத்திலேயே இந்தப் பரிதாபகரமான சம்பவம் இடம்பெற்றுள்ளது.

காஸி ரியாஸ் முகமட் என்ற குழந்தையே இறந்துள்ளது. இக்குழந்தையின் பெற்றோர் இலங்கையிலிருந்து பிரிட்டனுக்கு வந்து புகலிடம் கோரியிருப்பவர்களாகும். இவர்களுக்கு வேறு இரு பிள்ளைகள் உள்ளனர்.

இது மிகவும் துன்பகரமான விடயம். தொலைக்காட்சிப் பெட்டி குழந்தை மீது விழுந்ததாலேயே அக் குழந்தை இறந்துவிட்டதாக குடும்பத்தினர் எனக்கு கூறினர் என்று அக்குடும்ப நண்பரான பாதியா நூர் என்பவர் "டெய்லி மெய்ல்' பத்திரிகைக்கு தெரிவித்துள்ளார். அக் குடும்பம் கலங்கிப் போயிருப்பதாகவும் நானும் இரவு முழுக்க அழுதேன் என்று அந்த நண்பர் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

பிற்பகல் 3.01 அளவில் அம்புலன்ஸுக்கு அழைப்பு விடுக்கப்பட்டு வாகனம் அந்த வீட்டுக்குச் சென்றபோது 3.06 மணியாகும். ஆனால் மொறிஸ்ரன் வைத்தியசாலைக்கு கொண்டு செல்லப்பட்டபோது குழந்தை இறந்துவிட்டது. ஆஸ்பத்திரிக்கு கொண்டு செல்லுகையில் பிள்ளை நினைவற்று இருந்ததாகவும் மூக்கால் இரத்தம் வடிந்து கொண்டிருந்ததாகவும் அம்புலன்ஸ் கட்டுப்பாட்டுப் பிரிவு பேச்சாளர் கூறியுள்ளார்.

பொலிஸார் இச்சம்பவம் குறித்து விசாரணை நடத்துவதாக தென் வேல்ஸ் பகுதியைச் சேர்ந்த பொலிஸார் கூறியுள்ளனர்.

வங்கியின் குளறுபடியால் கோடீஸ்வரனான சிறுவன்

பிரிட்டனைச் சேர்ந்த சிறுவனின் வங்கிக் கணக்கில் திடீரென்று கோடிக்கணக்கான ரூபா சேர்ந்ததையடுத்து அச்சிறுவன் திடீர் கோடீஸ்வரனாகி உள்ளான்.
சிறுவனின் கணக்கில் இந்தப் பணம் எப்படிச் சேர்க்கப்பட்டது என்பதற்கான விசாரணைகளை மேற்கொள்ளுமாறு குறிப்பிட்ட வங்கி உத்தரவிட்டுள்ளது.

பிரிட்டனில் மாணவர்கள் பாடசாலைகளிலிருந்து விலகாமல் தொடர்ந்து கல்வியைத் தொடருவதற்காக குறிப்பிட்ட தொகைப் பணம் அரசின் கல்வி நிதியாக வழங்கப்படுகிறது.

லண்டனிலுள்ள தோமஸ் டெல்போர்ட் பாடசாலையில் படித்துவந்த வில்லியம் போவன் (வயது 16) என்ற மாணவன் தனது வங்கிக் கணக்கில் வாராந்த கல்வி நிதி சேர்க்கப்பட்டு இருக்கின்றதா என்று பணம் மீளப்பெறும் (ஏ.டி.எம்) இயந்திரத்தில் சரிபார்த்தான்.

அப்போது, அவனது வங்கிக் கணக்கில் 46 கோடி ரூபா சேர்க்கப்பட்டு இருப்பது தெரியவந்தது. இதுவும் அரசு அளித்த நிதியாக இருக்கும் என்று கருதி வில்லியம் போவன், உடனடியாக 75 ஆயிரம் ரூபா எடுத்தான். அந்தப் பணத்தை தனது நண்பர்களுடன் இஷ்டம் போல செலவு செய்தான்.

இது குறித்து அவன் தனது தாயிடம் தெரிவிக்கவே, அவர் அதிர்ந்து போனார். வங்கியிடம் விளக்கம் கேட்டபோது, வில்லியம் போவன் கணக்கில் தவறாக பணம் சேர்க்கப்பட்டது தெரியவந்தது. அந்தப் பணம் எந்த கணக்கில் செலுத்தப்பட வேண்டிய பணம் என்பதும் தெரியவில்லை. இதுகுறித்து வங்கி நிர்வாகம் விசாரணைக்கு உத்தரவிட்டுள்ளது.

பிரிட்டிஷ் கிராமமொன்றின் மக்களில் அரைவாசிக்கும் மேற்பட்ட தொகையினர் கடனட்டை மோசடியால் பாதிப்பு

பிரிட்டனிலுள்ள வேர்சஸ்ரர்சையரிலுள்ள கிராமமொன்றில் வசிக்கும் மக்கள் தொகையில் அரைவாசிக்கும் அதிகமானோர் சர்வதேச கடனட்டை மோசடியில் பாதிக்கப்பட்டிருப்பதுடன் அவர்களின் கணக்குகளிலுள்ள பணம் இலங்கை, இந்தியா, டென்மார்க், டொமினிக்கன் குடியரசு ஆகிய நாடுகளில் எடுக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது.

பிரிட்டன் பூராகவும் நுகர்வோரிடமிருந்து கடனட்டை மோசடி தொடர்பாக பரவலாகத் தெரிவிக்கப்படும் முறைப்பாடுகளில் பிந்தியதாக இந்தக் குற்றச்சாட்டு காணப்படுகிறது.

பம்பாய், சென்னை உட்பட பல்வேறு இடங்களில் பிரிட்டனிலுள்ளோரின் கணக்குகளிலிருந்து மோசடியாக பணம் பெறப்படுவதாகக் கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டிருப்பதாக பிரிஐ செய்திச்சேவை தெரிவித்தது.

வேர்சஸ்ரர் சையரிலுள்ள அமைதியான கிராமம் விச்போல்டாகும். அங்கு 700 வீடுகள் உள்ளன. அவற்றில் 400 வீடுகளைச் சேர்ந்தவர்களின் கணக்குகளிலிருந்து வெளிநாடுகளில் பணம் கையாடப்பட்டுள்ளது.

அவர்களுடைய அட்டைகளை பாவிக்கமுடியாமல் தடுக்கும் விதத்தில் ஏற்பாடுகளைச் செய்துவிட்டு விபரங்களை வெளிநாடுகளிலுள்ள குறிப்பிட்ட இடங்களுக்கு ஈமெயில் மூலம் அனுப்பி அங்கு பணத்தைப் பெற்றுக் கொள்வதாக உள்ளூர் பொலிஸார் கருதுகின்றனர். 50 தொடக்கம் 1000 ஸ்ரேலிங் பவுண்கள் வரை பணம் கையாடப்பட்டுள்ளது.

கடந்த மேயில் போர்னோ மௌத்தைச் சேர்ந்த "டெய்லி எக்கோ'வின் பத்திரிகையாளரின் பணம் அவரின் சென்னையிலுள்ள வங்கிக் கணக்கிலிருந்து எடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

அதேபகுதியைச் சேர்ந்த 500 பேருக்கும் இதேமாதிரியான பாதிப்பு ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது.

கடனட்டை பலபடியாக்கத்தை கண்டுபிடிக்க பிரிட்டிஷ் பாதுகாப்பு அதிகாரிகள் தீவிரமான முயற்சிகளை மேற்கொண்டுள்ளனர். இந்த அட்டைகளின் விபரங்கள் இரகசியமான முறையில் பரிமாற்றங்களின் போது பதிவு செய்யப்படுகின்றன. பெற்றோல் விற்பனை நிலையங்கள், பல்பொருள் அங்காடிகளிலேயே இவை பதிவு செய்யப்பட்டு உலகளாவிய ரீதியில் ஈமெயில் மூலம் அனுப்பப்பட்டு அந்த இடங்களிலிருந்து ஏ.ரி.எம் இயந்திரங்களூடாக பணம் எடுக்கப்படுகிறது.

இந்த மோசடிக்கு கேந்திர இடங்களாக கராஜுகளும் எரிபொருள் விற்பனை நிலையங்களும் இருப்பதாகத் தெரிவிக்கப்படுகிறது.

Tamil Killed in London

(June 06, London) A disgruntled and alcoholic Tamil man has been killed in London on 31 May 2008. Thiyagarajah Thayanathan was allegedly killed by a fellow Tamil and police are considering the killing as manslaughter

The said killing had taken place in Wembley in the Northwest London. The victim is said to be severely beaten by the assailant. The Wembley Police is investigating the killing and is looking for information about the suspect assailant.

Wembley had seen many gang related murders for nearly ten years. Machetes, guns, axes and crude weapons have been used in the violent fights. Following significant increase in resources to deal with Tamil crimes, violence has reduced recently. The recent death in the area is mainly due to squabbles between individuals.

Wembley is also an area where a dozen Tamil men in groups are seen taking alcohol publicly throughout the day. They do not live in safe places and dwell in quiet alleyways and a church cemetery.

Thiyagarajah Thayanathan is the second alcohol related Tamil man to die in Wembley within the past few months.

லண்டனில் தனிமையிலும் மன அழுத்தத்துடனுமிருந்த இலங்கைத் தமிழ் பெண்ணே தனது பிள்ளைகளைக் கொலை செய்ததாக பொலிஸாரின் ஆரம்பக்கட்ட விசாரணைகள் மூலம் தெரியவந்துள்ளது.

லண்டனுக்கு தெற்கே காஷல்ரன் நகரில் கடந்த வெள்ளிக்கிழமை இரவு, இளந்தாயொருவர் தனது மூன்று குழந்தைகளையும் கொலை செய்யும் நோக்கில் வெட்டியுள்ளார்.

இதில் 5 வயதான ஆண்பிள்ளையும் 4 வயதான பெண் பிள்ளையும் உயிரிழந்ததுடன் 6 மாத பெண் குழந்தை ஆபத்தான நிலையில் ஆஸ்பத்திரியில் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

மூன்று பிள்ளைகளையும் கழுத்தை வெட்டியே கொலை செய்ய தாயார் முயற்சித்துள்ளார். இதில் மூத்த இரு பிள்ளைகளும் உடனடியாக உயிரிழக்க மூன்றாவது பிள்ளையும் உயிரிழந்துவிட்டதாக தாயார் நினைத்துள்ளார்.

இந்த நிலையில், இரவு வீடு திரும்பிய கணவன் விபரீதத்தை உணர்ந்து உடனடியாக ஆஸ்பத்திரிக்கு அறிவிக்கவே அங்கு விரைந்த டாக்டர்கள், இரு பிள்ளைகள் உயிரிழந்ததை உறுதிப்படுத்தியதுடன் 6 மாதக் குழந்தையை உடனடியாக ஆஸ்பத்திரிக்குக் கொண்டு சென்று அனுமதித்தனர்.

இதையடுத்து அங்கு விரைந்த பொலிஸார், பிள்ளைகளின் தந்தையான நவராஜா நவநீதனையும் (39 வயது) அவரது மனைவியான சசிகலாவையும் (35 வயது) கைது செய்தனர்.

விசாரணையின் பின் கணவனை விடுதலை செய்த பொலிஸார், பிள்ளைகளின் தாயான சசிகலாவை தடுத்து வைத்து விசாரணை நடத்தியதுடன் பின்னர் மனநலச் சட்டத்தின் கீழ் அவரை மனநல ஆஸ்பத்திரியில் தடுத்து வைத்து சிகிச்சையளித்து வருகின்றனர்.

கடந்த நான்கு வருடங்களுக்கு முன் இந்தத் தம்பதியர் இலங்கையிலிருந்து லண்டன் வந்துள்ளனர். சசிகலாவின் சகோதரனும் அவரது மனைவியும் இவர்களுடனேயே தங்கியிருந்தனர்.

இரு வாரங்களுக்கு முன் அவர்கள் வேறு வீட்டிற்கு சென்றுவிட்ட அதேநேரம், வியாபாரத்தில் ஏற்பட்ட நஷ்டம் காரணமாக நவநீதனும் பாதிக்கப்படவே அவர் இரவு வேளைகளில் வீடு திரும்புவதில் பெரும் தாமதமேற்பட்டது.

இதனால், தனிமையாலும் மனஅழுத்தத்தாலும் சசிகலா பெரிதும் பாதிக்கப்பட்டிருந்ததாக உறவினர்கள் பொலிஸ் விசாரணையில் தெரிவித்துள்ளனர்.

இந்தச் சம்பவம் பிரிட்டனில் பெரும் அதிர்ச்சியை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளதுடன் பிரிட்டனுக்கு புலம்பெயர்ந்த வெளிநாட்டவர்கள் மத்தியில் பாரிய உளவியல் பிரச்சினை இருப்பதாகவும் தெரிவிக்கப்படுகிறது.

Schoolgirl expelled for visiting dying grandfather

A Wembley primary school is under fire after it threw out a seven-year-old pupil for visiting her dying grandfather in Sri Lanka.

Nithya Rasamani was struck off the roll at Sudbury Primary School for making the trip to say goodbye to her elderly relative without official permission.

Her distraught parents, Gunawathy and Egunouwathy, of Barley Close, Wembley, say they had no choice but to take the youngster out of the Watford Road school and are now appealing against the "harsh" decision.

Speaking on behalf of the angry couple, their 16-year-old son, Sayanthan, said: "We received a phone call saying our grandfather was very ill, so immediately booked a ticket to Sri Lanka for the following day.

"We told the school the situation, filled out a holiday form and was told it would be given to the headteacher.

"I had to stay at home and sleep on my auntie's floor because I am doing my GCSEs but there was nowhere for my sister to stay."

Nithya flew out to her family's native country on April 22, but her grandfather, who she was extremely close to, passed away shortly after arriving.

Sayanthan added: "My mum and dad had to help arrange the funeral so stayed longer than expected. On April 29 I went home to pick up some clothes and found two letters from the school.

"The first said that my sister did not have permission to have time off and the second said she was being thrown out."

The 16-year-old waited until after the funeral to break the bad news to his grieving parents.

"They were already very upset and it made them worse. They couldn't believe what the school had done," said Sayanthan.

Mr and Mrs Rasamani returned to the UK on May 14 and sought advice from the council. They have now submitted a formal appeal to try and overthrow the decision.

Nithya now faces the daunting prospect of finding a new school and making new friends.

Sayanthan said: "My sister has lost all her friends and is very upset about it. She has been crying saying she wants to go back and is getting very bored at home. She really enjoyed school."

A Brent Council spokeswoman said: "Nithya has been taken off the school roll because her parents took her out of school, without permission, for three weeks during term time. We are doing everything we can to advise and assist the family in ensuring that their daughter receives education and can return to school as soon as possible."

Mother of dead children is taken to mental unit

A Sri Lankan mother suspected of stabbing two of her children to death and critically wounding her baby girl was lonely and depressed by her life in Britain, her relatives said yesterday.

Police last night detained Sasikala Navaneethan, 35, under the Mental Health Act over the deaths of her son, 5, and his sister, 4. Their six-month-old sister remains in a critical condition after all three children were stabbed at their home in Carshalton, South London, late on Friday night.

Police have refused to give details of the incident but sources suggested that the throats of the older children had been cut.

Neighbours described seeing a “tiny bundle” being carried out of the house. “It was obviously a child,” one said.

Jon Bailey, 22, said: “I saw the child being carried out in a white sheet. The sheet was soaked in blood. The paramedic dropped her on a bed at the back of the ambulance and was trying to resuscitate her.”

Mrs Navaneethan and her husband, Navarajah, were arrested on the spot.

Mr Navaneethan was released yesterday and is no longer a suspect.

A police spokesman said last night that a 35-year-old woman, who had been in hospital since the incident, would be transferred to a secure mental health unit.

Speaking through an intermediary, a relative of Mrs Navaneethan told The Times that she had become depressed after her brother and his wife moved out of the house a fortnight ago. “Her husband was working all hours and she was very lonely, with no one to talk to,” he said. “She had three children who were very hard work.”

Friends said that the couple, who were Tamils and moved to Britain four years ago, were in debt. Mr Navaneethan, 39, owns a newsagents in nearby Coulsdon. His business had been badly affected by a bypass that severely reduced passing trade.

Paul Sathianesan, a Sri Lankan councillor in East London, said that the Tamil community in Britain lacked psychological support. “There’s no one people can talk to,” he said. “You can get advice about housing and welfare, but not if you’re just depressed.”

Sasikala Navaneethan, who is being held on suspicion of killing two of her children and leaving a third fighting for her life, was struggling to combine working and bringing up a family, neighbours have said.
The 35-year-old was arrested alongside her husband Navarajah, 39, at their home in Carshalton, South London, on Friday evening after her three children were stabbed.

While the couple's six-month-old daughter is fighting for her life in hospital, her five-year-old brother and four-year-old sister died shortly after the incident.

Police questioned Mr Navaneethan before releasing him with no further action to be taken over the death of the children.

But Scotland Yard said that he remains on bail for a minor matter - it is understood to be in connection with an alleged assault on his wife after returning to the property on Friday.

Neighbours said Mr Navaneethan arrived moments after the police, looking shocked, and was ushered inside.

Jay Raman, 36, runs a computer shop next door to the couple's busy grocery shop in Coulsdon, Surrey.

He said that that there had been no signs of anything "untoward" before the tragedy, but added: "I think things were getting too much for her, running the business and having children.

"She failed her driving test last week, which didn't help, they had been trying to get things together."

Mr Raman said that the couple had lived in a flat above the shop until around six months ago before moving to Carshalton to a bigger house with a garden for the sake of the children.

He added: "They are a very nice family, there was nothing untoward going on at all, there was no history.

Mr Raman told how he had often given the family's children a lift home from the shop if their parents were unable to.

He said: "They were lovely kids, they were always happy, the boy used to ride up and down on his bike."

But he added: "He was very nervous, they had trouble getting the boy into the car to come home with me, he didn't like to be away from his parents."

Mr Raman described the children as "brought up as you would want children to be brought up - well-mannered and well-behaved".

Couple held after children, 4 and 5, 'stabbed to death' as six-month-old girl fights for her life in hospital

Police have arrested a couple after a five-year-old boy and four-year-old girl died from suspected stab wounds.

A six-month-old baby girl was also fighting for her life in hospital after officers found the three children with serious injuries at their home in south London last night.

They were all taken to hospital but the two older children died within five minutes of each other just before midnight.

The couple, believed to be their parents and of Sri Lankan origin, are in custody and murder squad detectives and the child abuse unit are investigating.

Neighbours described seeing the children being brought out on stretchers, covered in blood, shortly before their parents were led out in handcuffs.


They watched horrified as paramedics desperately tried to resuscitate 'a tiny bundle' some time after a fleet of police cars and ambulances arrived at around 10.30pm.

One woman said officers had carried a 'limp little body' out of the house in Carshalton. 'It was obviously a child,' she added.

All three children were taken to hospital but the boy, five, and girl, four, died soon after they were admitted.


Police say their baby sister is still in a serious condition. It is understood she has now been transferred from the local hospital to another NHS trust in London.

Salesman John Bailey was at his girlfriend, Rachel Milan's house three doors down when the police cars screeched to a halt in the street along with several ambulances.

The 22-year-old said: 'It was manic. Their sirens were blazing and there was about four or five ambulances. We were in the living room and came running out to see what was going on.

'About six policemen were running up and down the road. They didn't seem to know what house they had been called to.

'Then an Asian looking man just walked out of the house and walked slowly to the end of the drive. Then the police knew which one it was and ran inside.

'About two minutes later they came running out with a tiny child in a blanket. It was soaked full of blood.

'The paramedics put the child in the ambulance which went off straight away. It was obvious something was very wrong.

"The Asian man was just standing there on the other side of the road. I couldn't believe it.'

Ms Milan, 23, added: 'About five minutes later two paramedics brought out another small child.


'I couldn't see if it was a boy or girl because their was a blanket obscuring its face but the child was totally limp and the blanket was covered in blood.

'A few people came out of their houses to see what was going on but the police just told us to keep back.

'The child was put in the back of the ambulance but it stayed there for at least 10 minutes. I think they were trying to revive it.'

She saw the mother being escorted from the property shortly afterwards.


'She was handcuffed and led over to a police van outside the house,' the shop worker said.

'The Asian man and woman just stood there on opposite sides of the road with police. They didn't say a word to each other.'

She said the couple had moved in around six months ago but 'nobody knew them'.

Jim Duffy, who lives a few doors down from the house, told reporters: 'My daughter saw one of the children being stretchered out of the house. She was covered in blood.

'About half an hour later they came out with another child. Then a woman who had blood on her dress, on her back.

'She was dressed in Indian style clothes... About half an hour later a chap came out. He was quite calm and the police were being quite calm with him.'


Mr Duffy also saw police bringing a small evidence bag out of the detached house.


'If it contained a weapon then it must have been very small, it was so small we couldn't see what it was,' he said.


He described Carshalton village as a pleasant 'oasis' between the more built up areas of Croydon and Sutton.

'It's a popular area and house prices are reasonable. You don't get fights or brawls and even the kids are well behaved so this is very unusual.'

The couple's three-bedroom home on Park Lane was cordoned off today and being guarded by police as forensic teams moved in and out.


Sen Gupta, who lives opposite, said they were originally from the Tamil area of Sri Lanka.


'They moved in less than a year ago. She was still pregnant. Obviously she has had the baby now,' he said.

'When it happened last night a group of people, also Sri Lankan, came to the house very soon after the police arrived.


'They were pacing up and down outside for a while.


'The police came out and spoke to them. They must have been telling them the children had died because they started screaming and crying.'

Neighbour Pam Thomas added: 'I saw a paramedic carrying the baby scooped up in his arms.


'Next they came out with the children. There were so many ambulances, five or six, that I was expecting them to bring out more people. '


Staff at the nearby newsagent said the mother had been in yesterday asking for change for a £5 note so that she could use the phone.


Scotland Yard said officers had been called to the house at 10.30pm to find the three wounded children. It is not yet clear whether the parents themselves made the call.


'Police and London Ambulance attended, and found three children suffering serious injuries, believed to be stab wounds,' a spokesman said.

'We believe we know the identity of the deceased, however we await formal identification and confirmation that all family members have been informed.'

They are so far refusing to officially confirm the relationship between the children and the man and woman in custody.

The pair, aged 39 and 35, were held overnight at separate police stations in south London and will be questioned today.
